Traveling Track

This is a track we created for USAA Auto Insurance to demonstrate the importance of traction and visibility. This track will be traveling to military air shows around the country for the next couple of years. First stop- Oceana Naval Air Station, Virginia Beach, Virginia. While it is not the same level as one of the wonderful creations by Dave Beattie of SlotMods or John-Michael Harlan of White Lake Ring fame, we’re pretty proud to have built this track in under a month and under a tight budget. The track is Scalextric Digital, and is using cars from Scalextric, Carrera, and Cartrix, all equipped with the Scalextric microprocessor.

The track was constructed in three 4’x6′ sections to be a total of 12′ long by 6′ wide.  It encompasses increasing and decreasing radius turns, a narrowing lane and hairpin turn, a tunnel, a bridge, and several areas where it is possible to switch lanes and overtake a slower car.  Just don’t go too fast- There are plenty of areas where a car can leave the road if you’re not careful!

Enjoy the video, and check out the real thing coming to a military airbase near you!
