Austin is fast becoming an auto racing town, and more people in Central Texas are discovering the joy of the sport every day.  For those of us who are not professional racers, or don’t want to invest in a sports car for track days, Go-Kart racing can be a great way to get the adrenaline rush  of automotive competition without having to seriously commit to the sport.  There are now several places in and around Austin where you can go and get the thrill of driving fast, without raising your insurance bill.  The infographic below gives some details on two of the local options.

  1. Ok, so which is REALLY our favorite? Again, there are pros and cons to both.

K1 is in the heart of Austin off Burnet Road, and easily accessible from all parts of town. CenTex Speedway is quite a bit further from downtown or the North side of town. Advantage- K1.

At CenTex speedway, the karts are all different colors and have different “sponsors”, while at K1 they all look the same, and it’s hard to quickly identify your opponents. Advantage- CenTex.

K1 is a more technical track, though there is a lot to be said about finding the right arc on a banked track. – Tie.

A bad driver causing a wreck at K1 can stop the race.for everyone, while at CenTex speedway there is usually room to get around less experienced racers. Advantage- CenTex.

There are many more karts available at K1, and more cars per heat- Advantage- K1

Indoor vs. Outdoor- depending on the season, one could be better than the other. Having to wear a fire suit in July under the Texas sun vs. Air Conditioning? – Advantage- K1

Speed- and isn’t that what it’s really all about?- Advantage- CenTex.

No matter which you try, both have excellent staff and facilities, and you can’t help but have a good time.

    1. And lest we forget- the best of both worlds is available at Driveway Austin on Sundays. Fast, gas powered karts on a challenging track. Check them out at http://www.drivewayaustin.com

  2. Oh, and why would Races2U promote “competing” businesses on our site?
    1) Because we love auto and motorcycle racing in all forms, and we want to share our passion with you…

    and…

    2) Because when 4 people can race each other at Races2U for an hour for less than the cost of 1 person for an hour of kart racing, it’s really not competing business, after all.
